Rolling Resistance Tester

Overview

Fuel Efficiency & EU Tyre Label Compliance — ISO 28580 Force Method

Rolling resistance accounts for 20–30% of passenger vehicle fuel consumption and up to one-third of truck fuel use. A 10% reduction in rolling resistance delivers approximately 1–2% fuel economy improvement and a proportional CO₂ reduction.

The machine presses the tyre against a smooth steel drum rotating at test speed (typically 80 km/h). A precision multi-axis load cell on the tyre spindle directly measures the tangential rolling resistance force — the most accurate method per ISO 28580.

Built-in skim test, temperature correction (to 25 °C), and drum curvature correction (to 2.0 m) ensure internationally comparable results. Software outputs the Rolling Resistance Coefficient (RRC) in N/kN and the corresponding EU fuel efficiency label grade. Known internationally as tire rolling resistance testers, these systems are used by tyre manufacturers and certification labs worldwide.

  • Force method: spindle-mounted multi-axis transducer
  • 1.7 m / 2.0 m smooth steel drum (ISO 28580)

Why Rolling Resistance Matters

  • Fuel: 20–30% of passenger car fuel consumption
  • CO₂: 10% RR reduction → ~2% CO₂ cut
  • EU Label: Mandatory A–E grading for all tyres sold in EU
  • India: AIS-142 now mandatory (aligned with UN ECE R117)

Machine

  • Power: 415V AC, 3-Phase
  • Environment: Temperature-controlled test room
  • Rim Adapters: Universal, full rim range
  • OS: Windows

Safety Features

  • Tyre defect detection with auto shutdown
  • Over-speed and over-load protection
  • Emergency stop system
  • Drum and tyre guarding / enclosure
  • Motor over-temperature monitoring

Capabilities

Key Features

ISO 28580 Force Method

Precision multi-axis force transducer on the tyre spindle directly measures rolling resistance force (Fx) and radial load (Fz) — the most accurate and widely adopted measurement method.

1.7 m / 2.0 m Smooth Steel Drum

Precision-machined, dynamically balanced drum meets ISO 28580 requirements. Results automatically corrected to 2.0 m reference diameter for international comparability.

Automatic Skim Test

Built-in skim (parasitic loss) test automatically subtracts bearing friction, aerodynamic drag, and transducer losses — isolating true tyre rolling resistance from system losses.

Temperature & Curvature Correction

Automatic correction of measured rolling resistance to 25 °C reference temperature and 2.0 m drum diameter per ISO 28580 — ensuring comparable, regulation-ready results.

EU Tyre Label Grade Output

Software directly outputs the Rolling Resistance Coefficient (RRC) and corresponding EU tyre label fuel efficiency grade (A–E) for C1, C2, and C3 tyre classes.

Multi-Standard Test Protocols

Pre-configured test recipes for ISO 28580, SAE J1269, SAE J2452, UN ECE R117, and AIS-142 — switch between standards with a single recipe selection.
