Pendulum and drop-weight impact test machines for railway buffer heads, draw-gear couplers, and bogie frame joints — measuring absorbed energy, peak force, and deformation to IRS and UIC specifications.

M-RIT Series
Impact testing of railway components — buffer heads, centre-pivot couplers, side buffers, and bogie-frame cast nodes — is mandatory under IRS, UIC, and RDSO specifications. These tests verify that components can absorb the kinetic energy of shunting and in-service impacts without fracturing.
The M-RIT series provides both pendulum (Charpy/Izod) and drop-weight impact capability in a single machine platform. Instrumented strikers capture force-time histories, and software auto-computes absorbed energy, peak force, and deformation — producing IRS-ready test reports.
Applicable Standards
Capabilities
From standard Charpy material qualification to high-energy structural component impact testing.
Standard Charpy V-notch and U-notch impact tests for weld qualification, material acceptance, and fracture toughness characterisation of railway steels per IS 1757 and EN 10045.
High-energy impacts up to 5,000 J for qualifying railway buffer heads, draw-gear couplers, and bogie-frame cast nodes. Measures absorbed energy, peak force, and permanent deformation.
Dial gauge (pendulum) and instrumented force-displacement integration (drop weight) for computing energy absorbed during fracture or deformation — the primary acceptance criterion.
Instrumented striker captures complete force-time and force-displacement curves. Software auto-computes peak force, yield point, total deflection, and elastic recovery.
Specimens conditioned in an integrated environmental chamber to –60 °C and tested within seconds of removal. Tracks the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) of railway steels.
TTL trigger output synchronises high-speed video cameras with the instrumented data stream. Enables frame-by-frame correlation of fracture propagation with force-time history.

Standard Equipment
Combined pendulum and drop-weight capability in a single machine frame — covering the full energy range from 1 J Charpy tests to 5,000 J structural impact tests.
Piezoelectric tup instrumentation captures the complete force-time record during impact. Enables calculation of absorbed energy, peak force, and fracture initiation point.
Optional environmental chamber conditions specimens to –60 °C. Automated transfer mechanism places specimens on the anvil within 5 seconds of removal — meeting IS 1757 timing requirements.
Pre-loaded test procedures for IRS M-41, UIC 826, EN 15551, and IS 1757. Auto-generated reports include all fields required for RDSO type-approval submission.
Fully enclosed test zone with polycarbonate viewing window and interlocked access door. Prevents fragment ejection during high-energy drop-weight tests.
Servo-driven pendulum raising mechanism with automatic angle selection. Eliminates manual lifting — improving repeatability and operator safety for high-throughput testing.
