Computerized Distributor Valve (DV) Test Rig — dual-station endurance testing machine
DV Test Rig — control panel display
DV Test Rig — internal pneumatic manifold

M-DV Series

Overview

This Automated Test Rig has been specially designed as per RDSO Specifications — RDSO/2011/TG/L/DV Endurance Test Rig/003 (Rev-01)(App 2013) — for Endurance Testing of Distributor Valves of Railway Locomotives.

  • Endurance testing of one or two DVs simultaneously
  • Real-time interfacing to computer at any time during the test
  • Test up to 1 million cycles
  • Extensive data storage and test report generation
  • Real-time display of completed test cycles and various pressures
  • Automated test rig with microcontroller-based control panel
  • All stainless steel covers over rigid frame

Compatible Distributor Valve Types

Type KE1Knorr Bremse, Germany
Type C3WSAB WABCO (now Faiveley Transport) — with Relay Valve
Type SW4Faiveley Transport, France — with Integral Relay Valve
Type C3WStone India Ltd., Kolkata — with Rel-10 Relay Valve
Type P4aWestinghouse, UK — with Integral Relay Valve

Capabilities

Test Modes

Full damper and valve characterisation as required by RDSO periodic inspection and EN 13802 type-approval.

Force-Velocity (F-V) Diagrams

Generates complete F-V characteristic curves at multiple velocities. The primary acceptance test for railway dampers — plots damping force versus piston velocity for compression and rebound strokes.

Leakage Testing

Sustained stroke cycling at rated velocity with continuous monitoring of oil level and external seepage. Detects seal degradation and quantifies fluid loss per RDSO acceptance limits.

Valve Opening Pressure

Low-speed ramp to identify the exact pressure at which internal blowoff and shim-stack valves open — critical for tuning ride comfort and ensuring correct valve assembly.

Damping Coefficient

Computes the damping coefficient (C) from force and velocity data at defined operating points. Software auto-calculates and compares against min/max acceptance bands per EN 13802.

Temperature Conditioning

Optional environmental chamber subjects the damper to –40 °C to +80 °C while under test. Validates cold-start performance and thermal fade — mandatory for extreme-climate rolling stock.

Endurance / Fatigue

Extended cycling at service amplitude and frequency to validate damper life. Monitors force output degradation cycle-by-cycle and flags the point of functional failure.

Standard Equipment

Key Features

Servo-Hydraulic Actuation

Closed-loop servohydraulic system delivers precise force and velocity control across the full operating envelope — from quasi-static seal tests to 20 Hz dynamic excitation.

Auto F-V Curve Generation

Software automatically generates F-V diagrams at user-defined velocity steps, overlays acceptance bands, and produces pass/fail reports — reducing operator intervention to a minimum.

Multi-Station Option

Dual- and quad-station configurations available for high-throughput workshop environments. Each station operates independently with shared hydraulic power.

RDSO-Format Reporting

Built-in report templates formatted for RDSO type-approval and periodic inspection submission — PDF, Excel, and CSV export with digital signatures.

Quick-Change Fixtures

Modular mounting adapters for different damper eye-bush and clevis configurations. Changeover between primary and secondary damper types in under 5 minutes.

Safety Interlocks

Force and displacement limit switches, hydraulic pressure relief, and guarded test zone with light-curtain access protection for safe operator-attended testing.
