DPL Series

Overview

Draw wire transducers — also known as string pots or cable transducers — measure large linear displacements by translating wire extension into a proportional voltage. A thin stainless steel wire rope is wound over a spring-loaded drum coupled to a rotary potentiometer. The housing mounts to a fixed frame; the wire attaches to the moving object.

The DPL series covers 0.5 m to 10 m in 9 standard models — ranges that would require an impractically large LVDT. The flexible wire automatically compensates for minor angular misalignment, making installation simple even where precise axial alignment is difficult.
